le terra curators

Welcome! If you are new here, we are the ladies of le terra curators. Our passion lies in marrying good design with the non-toxic environment. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY can either make you not care about the planet or care very deeply about her— and we chose the latter!

In our most recent blog post [here], we provided you with the foundation to understand color. In summation, we concluded that color comes in all variations. Despite societal associations, your experience with color is unique to you. What makes you sad and gloomy may make someone else cheery because they have a special memory with that color. It’s subjective like anything else.

Many of us don’t take the time to consider that the ability to experience color is a privilege worth acknowledging. With that being said, there are an infinite amount of colors in existence and yet we often see color palettes we have seen over and over again.

It has been said not to reinvent the wheel. However, isn’t the wheel worth turning? How many ways can we pair blue, yellow and orange conceptually? Literally a million ways! Yet somehow, we usually see very safe pairings.

Could it be argued that color rules were created to be broken? Are the rules in place just as a guideline while we await the most creative beings to come along and innovate the space?

seamless color blending

There was a time in fashion history where navy blue and black were forbidden from being paired. It was said that these colors were so close to each other that they didn’t match. We have since seen all sorts of colors teamed up with this pair such as various shades of blue or even red. The world didn’t end. A trend was created. Life went on.

Just like that— this rule went from ink to pencil because someone had the courage to recognize that a fellow, flawed human made this rule. They saw something and dared to be different. They took a chance on color because literally why not? Who does it hurt if we decide to pair black with navy? Would the fashion police actually put you in cuffs?

The point is that our way of thinking is continually shifting and evolving. It takes playing around with color, texture and patterns for you to know what works for you or at all.

Color isn’t to be feared. It’s to be faced. The next time you are in the paint section, grab a swatch. Hold it out in front of you, close one eye and move through the entire color section. You are bound to find an interesting and unconventional pairing that may make history. We are rooting for you!

We hope this gives you a reason to reflect on life as a whole. Catch our bi-weekly blog posts right here on our website. Stay updated via our newsletter and Pinterest accounts. More content to come.
