Caribbean transition: Brooklyn, NY

New floors, a fun paint job and arched doorways were the foundation of this living room refresh. By revamping existing pieces, adding more seating within budget and using decor to tie in the bold walls, their space is now more functional than ever before.

The challenge was to incorporate the existing African art from the client’s travels over the years. The walls were already baby blue with an orange accent wall. We chose to go with pink and teal to include within the color palette, with pops of navy and electric blue to add vibrancy. Etsy and West Elm were the perfect places to source fun accent pillows with bold patterns alongside knobs resembling the traditional steel pan paid homage to the client’s strong Trinidadian heritage.

A very narrow living room that also acts as a path of travel led to creative choices for surfaces. A console table between two arm chairs allows for a display area to showcase travel trinkets while providing a surface for drinks and phones when needed. The swivel arm chair is woven and in baby blue, perfect to pair with the accent wall. The soft pink throw blanket ties the palette together and pairs nicely with the birch media console.
